Chaparral Family Development Center (CFDC)

The CFDC includes a 5-Star, Pre-K Program that operates under the auspices of the Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD), Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program. The 5-Star rating provides the highest quality of early learning experience for the children in the community, while providing the teaching staff opportunities—all residents of Chaparral– for professional development in ECE. The CFDC serves over 50 children and families on a monthly basis. With the Extended Pre-Kinder Programs, the CFDC serves 29 families during any given academic year.

Early Childhood Education

The Chaparral Family Development Center (CFDC) started as a 2-Star Daycare Center in 2007.  Today, it is formally a 5-Star FOCUS pilot project (previously known as AIM HIGH) and now a Pre-Kinder Program.  It’s history dates back to early 2000 when a group of women were interested in creating an economic development facility and childcare center that would benefit the residents of Chaparral.  While we have had many challenges, we have learned a lot in the last 12 years and the Center has evolved to meet the original goals of providing much needed services in Chaparral as well as a source of employment.

Integrated Services For Immigrant Families (ISIF)

Since it’s beginning, the CDC has worked for and with immigrant communities.  Immigration status continues to be an issue of concern for families and the ISIF was created to addresss these immigration needs.  The majority of the families the CDC works with are mixed-status families.* ISIF program consists of three components: direct, legal immigration services, citizenship preparation classes, and the Promotoras de Apoyo Familiar program.

The ISIF Legal Immigration Office provides services that allow immigrant families to apply for legal permanent residency, renewal of work permits, naturalization, and many other legal immigration services.  Inquiries for services have multiplied progressively since the ISIF began its services in 2012.  The ISIF office receives over 400 walk-ins every month
